Royal Enfield Electric Bike Price, Review and Launch Date – The Ultimate Guide
As of August 2020, the CEO of Royal Enfield, Vinod Dasari, confirmed that the company is planning to launch its first-ever Royal Enfield electric bike. Chief Executive Officer, Eicher Motors, Siddhartha Lal, confirmed that the company is currently developing a range of electric motorcycles in line with their current range of 350 to 650 cc segment.
All major two-wheeler players such as TVS, Hero, Ather, BMW, and many others are ready to launch their electric vehicles in the coming months by 2022. Royal Enfield has also tightened their belt to catch hold of the high potential electric motorcycles market. Royal Enfield’s managing director, Siddhartha Lal, confirmed that Royal Enfield would begin production lines for its range of electric motorcycles and lineup to be distributed domestically and internationally in 2022.
Abiding by the CSR vision of its Chennai-headquartered parent company, the motorcycle giant has begun making its foray into electrical power. As per announcements from Vinod, the manufacturer is next prepping the release of Royal Enfield electric bikes, to start rolling off production lines shortly.
We expect the electric bikes produced by Royal Enfield to be built on the latest advanced electric manufacturing platform with the most advanced technology. In this article we will review and discuss about the upcoming models of Royal Enfield Electric Bike and also will inform you about the price range and expected launch date.
Range of Upcoming Royal Enfield Electric Bike
Royal Enfield plans to launch its first electric bike in India somewhere between 2023. The company’s research and development wing in the UK is currently working on this project. The team in the UK is making prototypes to determine in which segment they should first launch their range of electric motorbikes.
As per sources on India Car News, the Royal Enfield electric bike might use a battery pack ranging from 8 kWh to 10 kWh, paired with an electric motor. As per trends currently prevalent in the electric two-wheeler market, it is expected that the power and peak torque of this bike will both hover around 40 horsepower (HP) and 100 Newton-meters (Nm).
The Expected Models of Royal Enfield Electric Bike
We expect the Classic 350 may not be the only model Royal Enfield brings to market in the electric motorbike segment. Still, it is likely that the Meteor or even the Himalayan to follow up with these exciting new electric models.
Imagine a lighter and more efficient electric motorcycle than a conventional petrol range but still has enough power to get up to 70 mph in less than half a minute. Knowing this, it would seem like RE is committed to becoming a key player in the electric motorcycle industry.
The Current Market Share of Royal Enfield
Royal Enfield motorcycles currently capture a market share of almost 80% in the segment of 300-600 cc premium motorcycles. Even after new products like Honda CB350, Jawa, and Benelli Imperiale 400 are available in the market, the RE can still maintain its supremacy in this segment. They are way ahead of their nearest competitors currently.
Way forward from now, due to the massive hike in fuel prices currently, the entire automotive market is rapidly heading towards ev platform. Every day, new players and existing players are coming with new ev launches. Can Royal Enfield keep its current supremacy even in the electric market?
The answer, in my view, is yes, as the company certainly has the resources and experience to make it happen. But it would take a different marketing approach and technological supremacy in the electric paradigm to provide bikes that will be loved by the people like their current petrol-powered ones.
The Expected Royal Enfield Electric Bike Price
The expected royal Enfield electric bike price will be somewhere around Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom), and we expect a battery range of 250 km on a single charge at par in this segment of high-power bikes. If we talk about the expected design, it is expected that the company would come up with the signature retro style of Classic 350 but with a more advanced and upmarket approach.
The new model will feature a round-shaped LED headlamp, circular black turn signals, and possibly a single-piece seat with an exposed rear fender for a bobber stance to compete with the Perak.
Royal Enfield already has a huge market base for their existing range of motorcycles, and I am sure a large portion of their customers are awaiting the launch of their first latest electric bike. So far from the sources, it is confirmed that the company will be coming with their first electric model somewhere within the first half of 2023.
