Bajaj Chetak EV vs Ather 450X: Detailed Comparison and Ownership Review
Demand for electric scooters is increasing in India. There are many options available in the market for electric two-wheeler. Bajaj, TVS, Ola, Ather, Okinawa, and many more names are available in the market.
The Ather 450X has set a benchmark in the electric scooter sector, and then Bajaj has come up with the name Chetak in its return to the scooter space. The running cost has come down drastically after people have purchased electric scooters.
Bajaj Chetak EV vs Ather 450X : Design
Bajaj Chetak EV :
Bajaj Chetak has a conventional design. The build quality of this scooter is awe-inspiring. The overall retro modern design looks quite premium. One of the good things about the Bajaj Chetak EV is the headlamp.
The headlight has a perfect throw for a standard LED headlight setup. The seat height is low, which is more accessible for people to sit, especially women.

The power delivery of Chetak EV is quite linear, and there are no vibrations. There is a dedicated footrest for women’s convenience. The fit and finish are superb. Every minor detail in Chetak is finished in high quality, glove box compartment lid, LED lights, seat design, soft touch switches, and so on.
Ather 450X has sharp lines and a futuristic design. It offers more extensive under-seat storage, ample footboard space, and connected features compared to Bajaj Chetak.
The seats are wide and more comfortable. It comes under a sporty look.
The under-seat storage space is 22 liters which is enough for the full-faced helmet to fit in, and this is the only scooter with so much space under the seat.
Ather 450X rides well in both on and off-road conditions. The quality of the switches is not that good, and adjustment of the ORVMs is quite tricky in the Ather.

Overall, it’s a modern-looking scooter and has a futuristic shape, sharp lines, and curves. It comes loaded with various features. A concealed hook at the front looks very nice.
Technology and Ergonomics
Bajaj Chetak has a digital instrument console and a few features centered around the LCD console. Bajaj Chetak has a black and white theme, with neatly laid out fonts.
There is Bluetooth connectivity through a dedicated My Chetak app for android and iOS. We can connect our smartphone via Bluetooth and can control music playback from the handlebar. The LCD also shows real-time range, state of charge, odometer, time, and trip meter readings.
Through the My Chetak app, we can access features like vehicle location and vehicle status and install geo-fencing for security purposes. The seating position of the Chetak is more comfortable and natural than any other internal combustion engine scooter.
On technology prospects, It’s the Ather 450X that has the edge. It has a TFT screen, Bluetooth connectivity, and a new android-based touchscreen interface.
The feature list includes incoming calls, music playback, remote monitoring, satellite navigation, ride statistics, and over-the-air updates. These are powered by a 4G SIM, and riders can pair their smartphone through Bluetooth.
The features can either be used from the touchscreen or the toggle switch on the handlebar. But the floorboard is very tall, so the rider must bend his knees while straddling the Ather 450X. Bajaj Chetak EV & Ather 450X riders can connect their smartphone via Bluetooth.
Bajaj Chetak EV vs Ather 450X: Performance and Dynamics
Ather 450 X is the lighter scooter with a curb weight of 108 kg and a top speed of 85 kmph. But the sitting position is somewhat of a compromise with knees bent over the high footboard, and riders can feel harsh over the speed breakers and potholes.
On the other hand, Bajaj Chetak EV feels conventional too. It has a comfortable, neutral riding position, comfortable ride, and easy handling with a top speed of 70 Kmph. In both Bajaj Chetak EV & Ather 450X, Chetak scores a little better in its easy rideability and nicely balanced ride quality.
Battery and Performance
Ather 450X makes 6Kw of peak power and a top speed of 80kmph, while the Chetak has been limited to a top speed of 60-65kmph. Both Bajaj Chetak EV & Ather 450X uses fixed battery packs.
Ather uses a 2.7kWh battery unit, while Chetak EV uses a 3kWh unit. Chetak EV is quick to a claimed range of 5 hours full charge compared to Ather 450X, which will take 5.4 hours full charge.

Both Bajaj Chetak EV & Ather 450X are undoubtedly the most advanced electric motors designed, developed, and manufactured in India. The Ather 450X comes from a rapidly growing start-up, while Chetak is from Bajaj, one of the largest two-wheelers manufacturers in the world.
On paper, the Ather is the more innovative, technically equipped scooter and better performing one. But the Bajaj Chetak does boost more range. Chetak can be sold in multiple cities, giving it an advantage over Ather.
The Ather has a top speed of 85 kmph, whereas the Chetak EV will only do about 70Kmph. Range-wise, they are both more or less the same.
