However, with the advent of EVs, an opportunity returned to the scooter segment. Hence, Bajaj decided to make a comeback with the Chetak electric scooter. The Bajaj Auto has gone electric with its latest release, the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter. The electric vehicle segment is growing fast in the Indian two-wheeler and four-wheeler marketplace. Although initially most of the push came in from cities like Bangalore, where most of the buyers of EV 2-wheelers are based, now it’s quickly spreading, making its space in the towns like Hyderabad and Pune, Mumbai, Kolkata, and others. Handling and Ride Quality
The suspension setup of the new Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is like any other scooter of 110 ccs, but the trailing link setup at the front does have its own set of limitations. The scooter does its best to keep you disconnected from the undulations and disturbances of the surface. However, the ride quality is on the stiffer side whenever you enter a sharp pothole or go over a speed breaker, especially at speeds above 35 kmph.
Keeping that aside, the suspension is quite pliant, and the Chetak rides like any other petrol-powered scooter of a small capacity. Besides, the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is very planted around the bends, with good traction from the MRFs shod on 12-inch wheels on both ends. Slipping through traffic feels easy and quick, with the 12-inch wheels of MRF tires offering a decent grip through turns at city speeds.

The company has gone premium in electric space with the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter. The electric motor generates a peak power of 4.08kW and a torque of 16 Nm with a gentle touch. The Chetak comes with a battery pack of 3kWh, and it is strategically positioned in the center of the steel frame for better stability.
Both the battery units are sourced from Bosch, and those units are IP67 rated, which will be functional even when submerged in 3 feet of water for about half an hour.

Commuting on a Bajaj scooter is relaxing, especially if you are stuck in traffic jams. The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter has two modes, Eco and Sport. The regular commuting is taken care of by the Eco mode, which promises a range of 95 km, whereas the Sport mode offers a more active response and gives a shorter claimed range of 85 km.
However, when you need additional power to overtake or ride uphill, the Sport mode is activated by a sharp twist of the throttle automatically. Since the riding is usually within the city region, commuting over short distances, the top speed is capped at 70 kmph.
Braking and Styling
The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter comes with a combi-brake system with regenerative braking. As a result, the heat dissipated while braking is converted to kinetic energy, translating into a better range. It offers enough bite to quickly bring the scooter to a standstill, with a claimed range of 60-0 kmph distance within 2.8 sec. The scooter comes with alloy wheels, and there is a disc brake in front and a drum brake in the rear.
The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter has a LED headlamp that offers better illumination than a regular halogen unit in the front face. The headlamp section features a circular LED DRL that outlines the circular headlamp. The front apron of the electric scooter gets sleek LED turn indicators along with a Chetak badge in the center. The styling of the Chetak electric scooter is based on a pure retro theme, and from some angles, it looks like a Vespa Sprint scooter.
The Electric Scooter gets a compartment that appears like a glove box up front. However, there is a lack of enough space inside for keeping your goodies. Instead, there is a mobile charging port, a first aid kit, and a tool kit in the box.
In this section, Bajaj is ahead of its prime rival, Ather 450X, as Ather doesn’t provide mobile charging with 450X.
Display and Connectivity
The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter has switches on the handlebar to change ride modes, open the glove box, engage reverse, access under-seat storage, and change music tracks. The digital inverted LCD instrumentation displays the battery status, distance till empty charge, and the ride modes of the scooter. Besides, the Chetak app helps you access music or send emergency alerts if you have an accident. It also offers geofencing as well as location tagging.
Bajaj offers a lockable IP67-rated charging setup at no extra cost, which the company also provides. As a part of standard equipment, the company offers a nearly 3 m long charging cable with a 5A plug and an adaptor offering the convenience of charging the e-scooter from any household power source. According to Bajaj, it takes around 5 hours to charge the battery fully.
However, you can get it charged up to 25 percent in an hour. If you meet a situation where the battery charge drops to 10 percent, the scooter goes into limp mode with a drop in throttle response and maximum speed. If that settles to a further 5 percent, you will be forced to come to a halt as the remaining juice in the battery is used to perform limited functions. Bajaj offers a warranty of 70,000 km on the battery.
Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter on Road Price and Booking
The Bajaj is currently offering a single variant, Chetak Premium which is only available in Bengaluru and Pune. Bajaj Says it will be soon available in another 24 cities. An electric scooter has significantly lower maintenance costs than an IC engine scooter, and the service intervals are longer. In the case of the Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter, it is 15,000 km compared to 5,000-10,000km for an IC engine scooter.
For an EV, there is no oil change or filter change. And instead, adjust the brakes and suspension settings and tighten some contact points. Besides, the running costs are also lower. It takes around three units of power for a Chetak electric scooter to offer a range of 85 km, and an IC engine scooter will take close to 2.5 liters of petrol for the same distance, which costs around Rs 220.
The design of the Chetak is its biggest strength, coupled with its easy rideability, and both are strong points to make the new chetak a force to reckon with in the new age of electric scooters.
